Your partial denture represent a serious investment in oral form and function. If you have recently been fitted for a partial, you’ll need to learn to take care of it. With proper care of your partial has the potential to last for many years to come.

Food particles can sometimes sneak into the space between the partial and gums. This is even more likely if you have an over-denture partial that is fitted over your existing teeth. If this happens you can remove the partial and rinse it thoroughly.

When you take the partial out at night, you should rinse it to remove any food particles or plaque. Rinsing can also remove any adhesive residue, giving you a clean surface for the next morning.

Once you feel they’ve been thoroughly rinsed off you can brush the partial with a soft bristled brush and nonabrasive toothpaste. Be sure to look for a denture toothpaste or denture cleaner that has earned the American Dental Association Seal of Acceptance. This seal insures that the product has researched and tested the product for safety and effectiveness.

You should then brush your teeth and gums like you would as a normal part of your daily hygiene regimen.

Soak your partial in water when you’re not wearing it and be sure to store them in a safe place.
